TEACHING METHOD

Rainbow Academy is the only Italian reality that blends formation and work, because it is part of a proper International Production Industry.
It is a perfect mix of the reality of a workplace such as that of the Rainbow group and the professionalism of its teachers. Lessons are planned and delivered simulating the experience of a real Production Studio, as per the norm in important American companies.
Our teachers are all established professionals who guide our students step by step in creating their own productions. Our students experience all the production stages first-hand, and complete materials that are then featured in their own Portfolio or professional Reel.

GOALS AND SKILLS

Our Game Production course aims at creating fully-formed professional figures capable of working in the world of 2D and 3D videogame production, either as freelances or as part of a production team. This master starts from the “ABC” and teaches the real application of the necessary skills together with market analysis.
Starting from the basic concepts of 3D graphics, it provides the analysis and creation of game design content, such as the analysis of game mechanics that can be made with C# programming and Unity.
After learning the theory, students are guided through practice sessions during which they produce materials for their own portfolio.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

It is now common knowledge that videogames are now the most widespread form of entertainment and the most popular among new generations.

DIDACTIC
PROGRAMME

GAME ASSETS OPTIMIZATION
MANAGING 3D CHARACTERS AND ENVIRONMENTS

Our students are introduced to the basics of Photoshop, 3D Modeling in Autodesk Maya and to UV Mapping, before approaching the technical stage of optimization with retopology in Zbrush. They are also taught the basics of rigging and Animation in Maya, without forgetting texturing in Photoshop and in Substance Painter for Unity.

GAME DESIGN
BECOMING A VIDEOGAME MAKER

Our module in Game Design illustrates all the knowledge needed to set up the static and animated graphics in videogames. In order to make a videogame it is necessary to know the history of the gaming world and its evolution. Beginning with the analysis of the most important case studies and from the study of the Gaming Industry, the module then moves on to a practical approach involving the development of a Game Design. Students work on an idea, its development and its structure. In the advanced Game Design module, students are taught the concepts needed to elaborate the narrative structure and the psychology of the game. Of particular importance are the lessons about how to choose the different strategies in relation to the target group, which also lead to specific graphic choices, logic and basics of coding, Gameplay Design and, finally, the project implementation with Game features and dynamics design.

LEVEL DESIGN AND SET DRESSING
MAKING THE MAP

Basics and general Overview of Unity. Students are taught how to set up a project, the interface and asset management, which is to say all the characters, environments and props in the Game. There are lessons illustrating the physics and dynamics in Unity. It is crucial to understand and develop level and environment Design, which entails the creation of game levels and missions. At this stage, sessions dedicated to the setting, choosing and developing of the creative stages, including lighting and shading are organised.

BASIC GAME DEVELOPMENT

In the first module dedicated to game development there is a beginner’s introduction to programming in Unity (C# scripting). Unity is a real-time graphic engine for the development of 3D videogames and other interactive content; it is multiplatform and used to create, produce and manage the complete production of a videogame. This module begins with the explanation of the user interface all the way to the animation and automation (mechanism) systems.

ADVANCED GAME DEVELOPMENT

In this module, students learn, by way of well-studied practice and real production sessions, the professional skills that make it possible to build and render operative the game assets. There are lessons dedicated to advanced scripting in C# and plug-ins, to AI and Character System, Game Cinematics and Vfx, Building, export and debugging and profiling techniques for different platforms: both mobile and pc.

GAME AESTHETIC AND BUILDING

AUGMENTED REALITY / VIRTUAL REALITY
THE WORLD IN 360°

Videogames are constantly becoming more immersive and engaging; so it is fundamental to study and learn how to use the tools needed to work with Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality: a new way of experiencing and interacting with the fantastic reality that has been created.

LIVE GAME CREATION

Live sessions aimed at making a complete videogame – 3D (Base Tower Defence) and/or 2D (Base Puzzle Game) – ready to be released into the gaming world.

VIDEOGAME RELEASE

In the last stage, there is an analysis of the venues where a videogame can be released, the cash conversion mechanisms, how to promote a title and the technique involved in keeping a high level of attention and engagement for a set game and remain competitive in the gaming world.
